Meet the Doctor

Sarah S. Yoon, D.M.D.

Dr. Sarah Yoon's true passion in life is practicing Orthodontics. She has been practicing for almost twenty years and she is a double graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine for both dental school and residency. During her time at Penn she was the recipient of many awards, including receiving the research award during residency. Her research on facial growth in children was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics. She continues her involvement at her alma mater as a member of the alumni board at the Penn Dental School.

Prior to committing her career to exclusively practicing Orthodontics, Dr. Yoon was a general dentist for four years, which makes her a more well-rounded clinician. Dr. Yoon always strives to achieve the best result possible. She earned her board certification in 2013 when cases were presented in person and prudently evaluated by the board. She maintains an active board certification and passed her renewal in 2023.

Dr. Yoon is very skilled in treating patients in both braces and Invisalign, and her personal professional interest lies in treating our youngest patients in Phase 1 treatment. She is an expert on expansion in children and she has an immense understanding of facial growth and the airway. Dr. Yoon's focus is on developing the jaws from a young age to maintain a natural dentition, preserve the airway and create facial balance.

Outside of the office you can find Dr. Yoon spending time with her husband and two active boys (who are also patients at Millbrae Orthodontics). She enjoys traveling, being a mom, and taking care of her patients!

Alan D. Marcus, D.D.S., M.S.D. (Retired)

Dr. Marcus has been in private practice serving families and individuals in the Bay Area for more than 40 years.  His father, Dr. Irwin Marcus was an orthodontist in San Francisco and Millbrae, and Dr. Alan Marcus joined him after completing his orthodontic residency.  They practiced together for five years before Dr. Irwin Marcus retired in 1989.

For many years, Dr. Marcus has been actively involved in the Millbrae/Burlingame community.   He was born in San Francisco and raised in Burlingame. He attended Lincoln Elementary School, followed by Burlingame Intermediate School and then Mills High School.  Dr. Marcus received his undergraduate degree at the University of California in Santa Barbara.  In 1985, he completed his orthodontic training and residency at the University of the Pacific Dental School (UOP). For several years, he taught Clinical Orthodontics at UOP.

In 1993, he completed a two-year post graduate course taught by Dr. Ronald Roth. This course concentrated on the importance of the jaw joint in achieving a correct bite. As a graduate of the Roth Williams Center for Functional Occlusion, he specializes in the discipline of functional bites.

In his spare time, he is an avid Giants fan, enjoys traveling, photography and jazz.
